2023 Grand Marshal – JT Gerlt

The 2023 Apple Festival Grand Marshal is JT Gerlt! JT is a dedicated and community-oriented individual with deep roots in Morgan County who has proudly called this charming region home throughout his life. His journey has been interwoven with meaningful relationships and a commitment to making a positive impact on the community.

J.T. married the love of his life, Michelle Gerlt, in 1990. Michelle has been a dedicated educator at Morgan County R2 since 2000, shaping young minds and contributing to the growth of future generations. Together, they’ve raised a wonderful son named Brett, who resides in the vibrant city of Portland, Oregon, alongside his wife, Hannah.

Professionally, J.T. found his calling at KS95.1 radio in 1989, where he has played an integral role in its growth and success. With a steadfast commitment to excellence, he has ascended to the roles of Morning Show Host and Operations Manager. Under his guidance, KS95.1 has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Lake Sun Leader Best of the Lake Award, Missouri Best Awards, and a series of accolades from the Missouri Broadcasters Association. In 2023, J.T.’s leadership led to KS95.1 receiving the Missouri Broadcasters Association Small Market Morning Show of the Year award.

Beyond his professional achievements, J.T. is a shining example of community involvement. His heartwarming dedication to the Special Olympics Missouri has been unwavering since 1998, as he has participated in the Polar Plunge, raising an astounding $200,000 for this noble cause. His commitment extends to his local congregation, Glensted Methodist Church, where he finds spiritual nourishment.

J.T.’s passion for community service is further exemplified through his roles as Secretary of the Glensted Cemetery Association, a valued member of the Versailles Lions Club, and an influential member of the Morgan County Fair Board, where he has served as president since 2013. His impact on the Morgan County University of Missouri Extension Council has been felt, as has his significant contribution to the Morgan County Fair, earning him the prestigious 2015 Morgan County Fair Friend Of Our Fair Award.

His tireless efforts have also been recognized by the Versailles Chamber of Commerce, which honored him with the 2018 Business Person of the Year award. J.T. Gerlt’s story is one of community, family, and dedicated service—a testament to the power of individuals to create lasting change and enrich the lives of those around them.
